Oklahoma claimed the top spot in The Associated Press preseason college football poll, edging out SEC power Alabama for the No. 1 ranking.
The defending Big 12 champions received 36 of 60 first-place votes and 1,464 points in the poll, which was released Saturday morning.
Alabama is one of a record eight SEC teams in the preseason poll. No. 3 Oregon received four first-place votes, No. 4 LSU received one and No. 5 Boise State netted two.
Notre Dame checked in at No. 16.
