Ohio State beats out LSU for Class of 2013 QB commit

Urban Meyer continues to bring in SEC-type talent to the Ohio State football program, as the former Florida head coach snagged a commitment from Class of 2013 quarterback recruit J.T. Barrett on Wednesday.

Barrett, who was being recruited by Les Miles and LSU, will compete with Class of 2012 signee Cardale Jones to be the heir apparent to Braxton Miller in Columbus. The Rider High School (Wichita Falls, Texas) product also held an offer from Nebraska among others.

The 6-1, 210-pounder from the Lone Star State is a dual-threat who rushed for over 1,500 yards and threw for over 1,600 yards as a junior. He is a slasher-type runner who is also a sound passer, but he needs to improve on keeping his eyes downfield when a play breaks down.

Barrett is Ohio State's 10th overall commitment and first quarterback commit for the Class of 2013. He was recruited by offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tom Herman.
