Jon Richardson, the former president of the Carolina Panthers stadium and the son of owner Jerry Richardson, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 53.
Richardson was the oldest son of Jerry Richardson and was president of the stadium venture until resigning in 2009. According to the Charlotte Observer, he was a wide receiver at North Carolina and led the team in receptions in 1981. He had a tryout with the Baltimore Colts in 1982. Jerry Richardson played for the Colts.
Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, who covered the Panthers for a long stretch, has a wonderful piece on Richardson. He described him as an every-day guy.
