Ole Miss RB could be in more hot water
Mississippi’s Rodney Scott could be in even more trouble following his arrest on July 15 after an on-campus fight with a man who he believed keyed his car.
Head coach Houston Nutt said on Wednesday afternoon that Scott went after the wrong person, and that Elmer L. Johnson — the man who Scott believed was the perpetrator — has not deserved the treatment he’s been receiving on campus and on message boards.
Nutt said he was unaware whether Scott had apologized to Johnson, but “if he hasn't, he's about to.”
This case of mistaken identity also may mean an even bigger punishment for the sophomore running back, according to Nutt. Initially, the head coach didn't indicate there would be any penance.
“We'll have to look into it,” Nutt said.
Scott recently won the SEC’s sportsmanship award for saving Auburn's Zac Etheridge from further injury after the safety injured his neck in a collision last season. Scott stayed still underneath Etheridge for nearly 10 minutes while medical personnel stabilized the injury.
The 5-9, 195-pounder is expected to help fill the void left by Dexter McCluster in the Rebels’ backfield. He rushed for 138 yards on 35 carries with two touchdowns in 2009.
