One person will wear GM hat in Dallas -- Jerry Jones

Outsider would 'deter from the mix' Brad Biggs

Jerry Jones is beginning the evaluation process for the Dallas Cowboys after another season without a playoff appearance but his thinking isn’t about to include the addition of a general manager to the mix.

No, the owner is going to continue to wear that hat because another person in the front office would “deter from the mix,” Jones said Tuesday on his radio show on 105.3 FM in Dallas.

“I'd call on the very same kinds of influence and people and the information that someone like Bill Polian does," Jones said, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “The way we're structured and the way it is, our fans need to understand that I have the ability to go get anybody and any bit of information that there is, sports or football, and I do. I go get it. We get it from a lot of sources.”

Jones is confident in his ability to run the show but the Cowboys continue to languish in the post-Jimmy Johnson era. They haven’t found the right mix, whatever that is.

"One of the first jobs of a GM is to have good coaching," Jones said. I think we've got good coaching. I know that they know it can be better, but every team can say that. I look at our coaching and I like it.

"I look at our personnel. We had a total of 71 players on the roster all year, 31 were new players. I look at the mix of players, the veteran, the young player, where we're going to be with our core. I know we can do better, but I think there are some positives there."

Criticize Jones all you want for not being from a pure football background. That doesn’t bother him one bit.

"The facts are I've spent, what, 22 years doing this,” he said. “I've made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, then the one that should get the most heat is the one who ultimately makes the decisions, period, and that's me."

Polian got fired.. Who is JJ getting football info from a ant.. No cowboys fan is falling for his mess anymore.. These ppl that help him has not produce players that play with skills + heart.. Al Davis passed away.. So JJ takes over where Al left off.. Ironic raiders look different now!

Hey Jerry, i have NO problem with you, any owner who builds his own stadium, instead of pushing the cost on to middle clas taxpaeys, cant be a terrible person. (I live in Indy where our registered Democrat !%-er owner Jim irsay, has the city(IE:the taxpyers) paying for over 85% of the stadiums costs!)

But you ARE a terrible GM.
Look jerry, "Insanity is doing the same thing OVER and OVER and OVER again, each time hopeing for a different result." I know you have heard this saying before, its time for you to put it in practice

"I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, then the one that should get the most heat is the one who ultimately makes the decisions, period, and that's me."

So what does that mean Jerry? Will you fire yourself for years of incompetence?

Another egomaniac stands in the way of team's progress.

You're doing a great job Jerry! Don't let anybody tell you different! Oh, I guess you don't, at that.

I have no problem with him as the GM/Owner/President/Dictator for Life. If only he would take over coaching too. As a life long Cowboy hater, I love what he's doing.

It's his toy; he can play with it as much as he wants.

One glimmer of hope for Cowboy fans...I read some where that Stephen Jones has been slowly taking over more of the day-to-day operations of running the team. One can only hope he'll take over completely very soon and do a much better job than JJ has done recently. Parcells build a great core group of players that can compete with on this team. Now we just need a good coach to put it all together and take it to the next level. I was hoping Garrett would be that guy, but after this past season and some of the incredibly dumb game decisions he's made, I'm not so sure of that any more.
