Dallas CB hopes to be ready for training camp Brad Biggs
Orlando Scandrick, who in two seasons has gone from a fifth-round draft pick to a building block for the future of the Dallas Cowboys defense, will be sidelined perhaps until the start of training camp.
Scandrick broke the index finger on his left hand and underwent surgery Tuesday night, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. Scandrick used the word “shattered” to describe the finger after doctors informed him the injury was more serious than they originally expected. A pin was inserted to help the finger heal, and it will not be removed for three or four weeks.
"I don't see myself catching any balls until camp starts,'' Scandrick told Moore.
The good thing for Scandrick is he will be able to report to camp in shape. He has appeared in 32 games over the last two seasons and has made six starts, four of them in 2009. Scandrick figures to have the opportunity to compete for a starting job but he will be no worse than the team’s nickel cornerback, a role he’s played well the last two seasons.
