Two different New York Giants defensive linemen, two different ways to approach Robert Griffin III.
Jason Pierre-Paul warned the Washington Redskins quarterback earlier this week, “don’t bring it to my side.”
Osi Umenyiora has a different approach. After referring to the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor as “Bob” back during the summer, Umenyiora has changed course.
“His name is Sir. His name is Sir Robert Griffin," Umenyiora said, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. "That is what I refer to him now. I mean, look at what he’s done. Look at the way he’s performed as a rookie. You don’t see players come into the league and perform like that at that stage in their career, so all the respect in the world goes to him, and he is a phenomenal football player."
Umenyiora called Griffin’s 76-yard touchdown run to put a game against the Vikings away last week “ridiculous.”
“You saw guys who are known as fast guys just trailing behind him, and you saw him blazing down the football field," Umenyiora said. "We know the kind of speed he has. But more importantly, he has an arm. He is a good quarterback. Forget all the running stuff. This guy is good. They've got a real good player on their hands, and we've got a problem on ours."
