Osweiler is Broncos' designated Hail Mary QB

Denver Broncos rookie backup quarterback Brock Osweiler was getting ready to come into Monday night's loss against the Atlanta Falcons to replace Peyton Manning had the Broncos gotten one more series before the clock ran out.

That's because the strong-armed rookie QB would have gone in to throw a potential Hail Mary pass to the end zone, had the Broncos kept the Falcons from picking up a late first down and gotten the football back with a few seconds remaining.

"I was going in for the Hail Mary," Osweiler told the Denver Post. "I'm not sure what the dividing line was as far as me going in, but I was getting ready to go in."

Of course, the obvious follow-up to that is Manning's arm strength, which certainly didn't look like what it once was on Monday night as he continues his return after missing all of 2011 with a neck injury. At any rate, Osweiler, who stands 6-7, has a much stronger arm than Manning at this juncture of his NFL career.
