Perhaps bracing for the reality that linebacker Nick Barnett will be out for many weeks, of not the remainder of the season, the Green Bay Packers brought five linebackers in for tryouts on Tuesday.
According to an NFL source, the Packers also worked out veteran running back Aaron Stecker and defensive back Michael Greco. They could be looking at Stecker to bolster their return game.
The linebackers were Dominic Douglas, Cardia Jackson, Steve Octavien, Mike Rivera and Lee Robinson. Octavien appeared in 16 games over the previous two seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. The other linebackers are practice-squad eligible. None of them will make up for the absence of Barnett, but maybe the Packers will find a younger player to develop.
