Packers make significant moves up front

The Green Bay Packers added new elements to their offense when they used second- and fourth-round picks on running backs Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin.

Now, they will revamp the line in front of freshly minted quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Bryan Bulaga is making the transition to left tackle from right tackle, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The guards have traded places too with Josh Sitton now on the left side and T.J. Lang moving to the right side. That leaves Marshall Newhouse, the displaced left tackle, with Don Barclay and Derek Sherrod to compete for the job at right tackle.

“I sat down with Bryan and Josh on Monday and I told them I wanted to make the move to where they're on the left side,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, according to Silverstein. “Those two are our most accomplished and experienced players. I told them about the responsibilities and my expectations about playing the left side.
"Some of the things we'll want to get into schematically as we move forward. They were excited about it."

The Packers had high hopes for Newhouse last season but he let them down, allowing 11 sacks. Now, Bulaga will make the move after 33 career starts at right tackle.

“I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have full confidence in Bryan," McCarthy said. "He's been here everyday (in the offseason) and so I've seen him develop physically in all areas of his game. He's a very mature player."
