The Green Bay Packers made it official this afternoon as they officially announced the re-signing of veteran right tackle Mark Tauscher to a two-year contract.

Tausher’s return during the middle of last season helped fortify a line that was getting overrun, and now he and veteran left tackle Chad Clifton can continue what has been a unique pairing for a decade.

"Mark has been a consistent player for us and we are excited to reach this agreement," general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement released by the team. "He is a leader in our locker room and a fine representative of the team throughout his home state."

Tauscher was a seventh-round pick by the Packers in 2000. He’s played in 130 games and has 128 starts.

Good and bad. Nice to have him but this doesn't mean the line is "fixed" - we need quality depth and both of these guys have question marks. It does buy some time though.

I still think they need to pursue a lineman via the draft/FA.

I suspect they will still draft at least 1 OL, probably 2.

Like Duck said, it's good & bad. It's good that GB signed him but that should be a huge hint that most of the newer players on the O-line aren't progressing like they should be. Do we blame the O-line coach(es) or does Ted get the blame like everything else Packers fans do? Ted needs to draft bigger OL, not guys that way 295-310lbs.

That reminds me of when Bart Starr was coach & GM back in 1980 or so & he traded with Houston to get G/Angelo Fields. They tried everything to get him to lose weight but either he couldn't lose weight or lose enough weight, I forget but they ended up flying him to the "fat farm" at Duke to get him to lose weight. I think he only lasted a season at the most IF that. He weighed 330lbs when he went to the "fat farm."

/God forbid they use that phrase now, there would be a stinkin' lawsuit today. Cloggin' up the courts with useless things like that.
