The Green Bay Packers shed two players coming off torn ACL’s this afternoon.
Running back Brandon Saine and linebacker D.J. Smith were both released by the club.
Smith was first to replace Desmond Bishop last season before a torn ACL ended his season. Saine suffered a torn ACL in Week 6 last season, two weeks after running back Cedric Benson went down with a torn Lisfranc ligament. The Packers hosted Benson, a free agent, on a visit today. It is unclear whether or not he will get a contract offer.
Now, the Packers have Alex Green, James Starks and DuJuan Harris under contract at running back. The team is expected to address the position in the draft but the Packers have traditionally avoided using high draft picks on the position.
