Packers to release LB Desmond Bishop today

The Green Bay Packers are expected to sever ties with inside linebacker Desmond Bishop today.

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the team will make the move after it was reported last week that his days were numbered.

“So much fun, so many memories & friendships forged in Green Bay. Ups & downs, wins & losses! Even a XLV championship. Forever grateful #Pack,” Bishop wrote on his Twitter account.

Bishop missed all last season after suffering a ruptured hamstring tendon during preseason.

Bishop’s base salary of $3.464 million for this season made him expendable after the team invested in Brad Jones this offseason. Bishop emerged as a starter in 2010 and was one of the best defensive players on the team in 2011 when he had 115 tackles and five sacks.
