Panthers’ Mike Mitchell says Goodell is targeting him

Carolina Panther safety Mike Mitchell accused NFL commissioner Roger Goodell of targeting him for fines.

Mitchell was fined $7,875 for taunting during the play where St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Goodell doesn't issue these kind of fines. They stem from NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks.

“Roger being Roger, I guess,” Mitchell told Carolina reporters. “To be honest, I think there is a little bit of a targeting system they have out. I think I'm one of the guys they'd been looking for, but I'm OK with that.”

Mitchell told reporters he's been fined $45,000 this year, a total of five fines.

“Right in Roger's pocket,” Mitchell siad. “Right in his pocket is where it's going.”

The fines don't go to Goodell actually. They go to a fund that benefits former players in need.
