The Carolina Panthers continued to clean up their salary-cap mess today as linebacker James Anderson has been released.

Anderson was due to earn $2.9 million this season, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, and if the club designates him as a post-June 1 the move will clear $3 million against the salary cap. If not, the move makes only $200,000 in room for the team.

Anderson was one of many players to get big pay days from the club after the lockout. In July 2011, he signed a $22 million, five-year extension. Anderson played in 12 games last season and had a shoulder injury.
