Panthers placing Charles Godfrey on IR

Carolina Panthers safety Charles Godfrey is out for the season with a torn Achilles, coach Ron Rivera announed today.

Godfrey signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract extension in 2011.

Panthers safety Quintin Mikell also injured his ankle Sunday.

Godfrey has recorded 353 career tackles, three sacks and 11 interceptions.
