In what would amount to a trade of sorts, the Carolina Panthers are interviewing Pat Shurmur for their offensive coordinator position today.

Shurmur was replaced in Cleveland when the Browns hired Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski to be their head coach. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reported that Shurmur is in Charlotte meeting with Panthers head coach Ron Rivera today.

Rivera and Shurmur share a familiar background as assistant coaches. Shurmur was the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles when Rivera was a linebackers coach on Andy Reid’s staff. The belief here is when Rivera was interviewing for head-coaching positions several years ago that Shurmur was on his list of possible offensive coordinators.
