The New England Patriots placed running back Shane Vereen on injured reserve-designated to return, sideling him for at least the next eight games.

Vereen injured his wrist and had surgery this week.

Vereeen rushed for 101 yards and caught seven passes for 58 yards after starter Stevan Ridley was benched when he fumbled.

Now, the Patriots have re-signed blocking tight end Matthew Mulligan to the 53-man roster.
