Veteran receiver released, but could possibly return. Terry McCormick
Brandon Lloyd's well-traveled NFL career took another turn on Saturday, as the New England Patriots released him, according to NFL.com.
Lloyd was due a $3 million roster bonus, and was reportedly willing to take less. But that didn't stop the Patriots from cutting ties.
There is the possibility that Lloyd could return, but his fate in New England could be tied to whether or not the Patriots land restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders, who signed an offer sheet with the Pats.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have seven days to match that contract offer or let Sanders join the Patriots.
