The New England Patriots have released veteran cornerback Shawn Springs and signed sixth-round center Ted Larsen to a four-year deal worth roughly $1.87 million, according to a league source.
Larsen received an $80,000 signing bonus with base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000.
Springs has played 13 seasons, including last year with the Patriots.
He has previous stints with the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks.
For his career, he has registered 701 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks, 33 interceptions, two touchdowns and 141 pass deflections with five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
Springs was signed by the Patriots as a free agent last March and played in 12 games with eight starts last season, finishing with 39 total tackles, one interception and four passes defensed.
Larsen was drafted out of North Carolina State with the 205th overall selection.
The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder is a converted defensive lineman who started 23 games at center for the Wolfpack.
