Team cuts Bruce Davis, Isaiah Stanback Aaron Wilson
The New England Patriots made it official, announcing the previously reported signing of defensive end Derrick Burgess.
And the team released outside linebacker Bruce Davis, a former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick, and wide receiver Isaiah Stanback, a former Dallas Cowboys draft pick.
Burgess signed a one-year deal.
Last August, the Patriots traded third-round and fourth-round picks to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for Burgess.
Burgess played in every game last season for New England with six starts. He finished the season with 35 tackles and five sacks.
Burgess has 52 career sacks, leading the NFL with a career-high 16 sacks in 2005.
A two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher, he recorded 11 sacks in 2006.
Burgess has 8 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles over the past two seasons.
