Patriots talking to Julian Edelman

Now that the Ravens have signed veteran wide receiver Steve Smith to a three-year, $11 million contract, the New England Patriots are still looking for a wide receiver.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick called Smith to try to convince him to come to New England prior to Smith traveling to Baltimore, and a visit had been scheduled originally for Monday. However, Smith cancelled and quickly signed with the Ravens.

Now the Patriots are turning their attention back toward wide receiver Julian Edelman, who visited the San Francisco 49ers on Friday.

The Patriots are now in talks with Edelman trying to get him back under contract with no deal imminent, according to sources. He turned down a three-year contract offer from the Patriots prior to free agency.

Last season, Edelman emerged as a reliable threat with 105 catches for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns as he became Tom Brady's most consistent target.
