Patriots try out Marcus Dixon, DaJohn Harris, cut Marquice Cole

The New Englnd Patriots auditioned free agent defensive tackles Marcus Dixon and DaJohn Harris today.

Dixon is a former Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs player who has 21 career tackles and 2 1/2 sacks. Harris was previously with the Tennessee Titans.

The Patriots lost Vince Wilfork to a season-ending torn Achilles tendon, so they could use some depth at defensive tackle beyond Tommy Kelly, Chris Jones and Joe Vellano

They could also promote defensive tackles A.J. Francis or Marcus Forston from the practice squad.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have cut defensive back Marquice Cole for the second week in a row.

The Patriots now have two open roster spots.
