It’s no secret that Mike Shanahan and the ‘Skins are in desperate need of a quarterback. Joe Fortenbaugh
Could Peyton Manning be staring down the barrel of two yearly showdowns with his younger brother Eli?
According to one person, it’s “very likely.”
If Manning doesn't return to the Colts, Indianapolis fans don't want him in the AFC.
Longtime Philadelphia sports talk radio host Howard Eskin—who happens to be in Indianapolis this week for the Super Bowl—tweeted late Sunday morning that the Washington Redskins are planning to make a big move to land the elder Manning brother.
“Told by 2 people close to Mannings that Peyton very likely to be a Redskin despite smokescreen being put of their by Skins to seek other QBs.”
The tweet takes the recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter one step further, as Schefter says the Washington brass has had discussions about going after Manning, Green Bay’s Matt Flynn and Kansas City’s Kyle Orton.
Schefter goes on to report that the ‘Skins are also discussing the idea of moving up to the No. 2 spot in April’s draft, where they presumably would take Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III from Baylor, should Stanford’s Andrew Luck land in Indianapolis.
We’ve still got one big game left to play, but the offseason drama is already heating up.

If 1 was the Redskins I 'd want Matty Flynn, He'll will end up being another Rodger's in future. Watched this kid lasy year when Rodgers was out with concussion he really did well and showed he has what it takes to be top NFL QB!! Can make the throws and has complete control of the offense as far as I could see!! Watch out for this kid!!!!!
Joe Gibbs made the very accurate point that this would make sense only if the Redskins were prepared to ditch their offensive system, ie the whole reason they hired the Shanahans, and go with what Manning previously used in Indy. Do you really think it's a great plan to bring in an aging QB and expect him to adopt a totally new system that does not maximize his considerable strengths? of course, they did pretty much the same thing with McNabb, so there is no way to overestimate just how stupid this franchise can be.
Howard Eskin is a man who wears a fur coat. I can't take anything he says seriously.
Last season Howard Eskin's "sources" said Brett Favre was going to sign with the Eagles.
Sure, Washington makes a good deal of sense considering that they don't really have any significant money tied up in the position and Snyder loves to throw money at big name FAs, but does Manning really want to go to a fourth place team? Miami and SF have just as clear a path for him with probably higher ceilings than the Redskins. The most interesting part though will be to see which teams with relatively established QBs decide to take a shot at him. It's certainly not inconceivable that the Jets, Chiefs or even the Falcons could give up on their passers despite still owing a decent amount of guaranteed money. Of course, the cap staying the same next year will make that a lot more difficult to pull off.
What a shock, the Redskins are looking for the "easy" fix. You can't just buy players and plug them in and think they will do well. Matt Flynn will do alright, but only if he is in a system similar to McCarthy's. I think his best chance to succeed will be in Miami where GB's Offensive Coordinator just got hired as the head coach. The Redskins should focus on drafting and developing a quarterback. Problem is, if they draft RGIII, they will want to play him from day one when he really should sit for a year and just learn. With respect to signing Manning-are the Redskins serious. Take another over the hill quarterback that has never played in Shanahan's version of the west coast offense? Pass.
How did Kyle Orton get in this discussion?
