Coach decides receiver wasn't 'right fit' for organization. Terry McCormick
Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin tried to explain on Monday the reasons behind the club's quick hook with wide receiver Chad Johnson.
"In making these decision we base our evaluations on a set of criteria that supports our organizational goals and includes a players performance both on and off the field," Philbin said via NFL.com. "Essentially, we take into account the overall body of evidence to determine whether an individual is the right fit for this organization, and more specifically, this football team. That's how we made previous decisions and that's how we plan to do so moving forward."
The Dolphins released Johnson on Sunday, less than 24 hours after his arrest Saturday night on a domestic assault charge involving his new wife.
In other words, Philbin and the Dolphins basically washed their hands of Johnson before he could cause any further distractions.
