Pittsburgh Steelers veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress will undergo surgery Monday to repair the damage to his torn rotator cuff.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin issued a statement today about the injury, which is expected to end his season.
"During Thursday’s practice, Plaxico suffered what appears to be a significant shoulder injury. He is scheduled for surgery on Monday, and we will re-evaluate the injury at that time," Tomlin said. "I will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available."
Burress got injured Thursday while trying to make a leaping catch.
Burress, 35, caught just three passes in four games last season for Pittsburgh.
For his career, Burress has caught 553 receptions for 8,448 yards and 64 touchdowns.
He has also played for the New York Giants.
