The looming talks between the Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Peyton Manning are expected to culminate in a deal before the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player's becomes a free agent, team president Bill Polian said today.
Polian said during charity golf tournament he anticipates a contract being finalized sometime between now and the end of the season. Manning is heading into the final year of his contract.
Forecasting that Manning will be made the NFL's highest paid player, Colts owner Jim Irsay has characterized the pending deal as a top priority.
What are the obstacles to getting something done?
The sheer volume of the numbers involved with a deal such as this, which will be negotiated with Tom Condon, the lack of a labor deal after this season and the complexities of striking a contract during an uncapped year.
Ultimately, though, something will get worked out and Manning will be an even richer man.
