Christian Ponder says all sides are winners in the Percy Harvin trade.
The Minnesota Vikings quarterback, who Harvin reportedly grumbled about although he never said anything publicly, tried to put a positive spin on the situation. The Vikings lack any proven playmakers at wide receiver for Ponder although they did re-sign Jerome Simpson on a one-year deal Monday.
“Seattle wins, because they get him. Percy wins — he got a new contract, which was what he really has been wanting. And we win, because we get some good draft picks,” Ponder told Ben Goessling of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
“People have their opinions. There were things I could have done better (last season). But now that he’s on a different team, his opinion doesn’t really mean much.”
Ponder told Goessling he thought he had a positive relationship with Ponder. There was a Yahoo! Sports report that indicated Harvin’s complaints about Ponder was a motivating factor in the trade that netted Minnesota first- and seventh-round picks this year and a third-round pick in 2014.
“The thing is, there’s no quote strictly from Percy that he was the one saying it,” Ponder told Goessling. “I haven’t put too much thought into it. If that was his opinion, that’s unfortunate. But he’s a Seahawk now, so it doesn’t really matter.”
