The Minnesota Vikings have ruled out quarterback Christian Ponder with a broken rib and will start Matt Cassel in London against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ponder got hurt against the Cleveland Browns, breaking a bone near his heart.

"We just made a decision, what's best for me and my health and for this team," Ponder told ESPN. "It stinks, but it is what it is, and I'll be back in for Carolina."

Ponder has two interceptions and five touchdowns.

Now, it's Cassel's turn. Cassel was signed to a two-year, $7.4 million contract in March after being cut by the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I've been through it a lot, but at the same time, you still get those butterflies and everything," Cassel said. "I just found out this morning, right before practice. But at the same time, we've been preparing for this. I had a good week of practice. I feel like I'm ready to go."
