Untested backup gets nod over Leinart in finale. Terry McCormick
Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen announced that Terrelle Pryor will start at quarterback Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
Pryor and Matt Leinart, who relieved an injured Carson Palmer last week, had been splitting reps in practice.
The move may be upsetting to Leinart, who said earlier in the week that he felt he should start, but getting a look at Pryor in a game with both clubs playing out the string, is probably the smart thing for the Raiders to do.
The club has to see how much Pryor, who was considered a very raw prospect when the Raiders selected him last year in the supplemental draft, has progressed in order to get an indication if he is worth grooming as a quarterback of the future.
