Tom Martinez, who helped to mentor Tom Brady, died Tuesday on his 66th birthday, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Martinez was a long time coach at the College of San Mateo in the Bay Area and upon retiring from coaching became a quarterback tutor.
In recent years, he had developed health problems due to diabetes and was awaiting a kidney transplant when he died of an apparent heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, Olivia, a son and two daughters. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
