RG-3 set to practice today

Robert Griffin III is expected to practice for the Washington Redskins today, putting him on course to start on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings a week after he was knocked out of a loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a concussion.

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported that Griffin, provided he does not experience a setback, will be cleared to practice provided he does not take part in any contact drills. NFL teams don’t ever expose quarterbacks to contact during practice.

While it is no lock Griffin will play this Sunday, provided he doesn’t encounter any speed bumps along the way, he should face the Vikings. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and teammates said Griffin was feeling good on Monday.

The Redskins have been forced to follow NFL guidelines for a return to play by Griffin.

“The experts are in charge of it now,” Shanahan said, per Maske. “We’re not. We have no say. They’ve got a standardized format, which I think is great. It takes us out of the equation and what’s best for the player is usually what’s best for the team.”
