Raiders release Stanford Routt

The Oakland Raiders announced Thursday afternoon that they had released cornerback Stanford Routt.

Routt was headed toward free agency last year, but the Raiders re-signed him to a three-year contract worth $31.5 million last year and had it restructured in August to add two more years for a total of $54.5 million.

But new head coach Dennis Allen and new GM Reggie McKenzie decided to go in a different direction, setting Routt free and tossing the cornerback onto the free agent market.
