The Oakland Raiders have signed veteran free agent quarterback Kyle Boller, the team announced.
Boller last played with the St. Louis Rams.
Boller is a former first-round draft pick from Cal who struggled as a starter with the Baltimore Ravens before eventually being replaced by the late Steve McNair.
Boller has the arm strength and mobility that Raiders owner Al Davis coveted.
He also likes to acquire players who played collegiately in the Bay Area.
Boller was a heralded recruit at Cal who was once called "Jesus in Cleats" by the student newspaper.
He blossomed as a senior under Jeff Tedford, but his frenetic style hasn't translated into any consistent NFL success.
Boller played for the Ravens for six seasons, including 42 starts.
Boller played for Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson for one year in Baltimore when Jackson was the Ravens' quarterbacks coach.
In four starts last season in St. Louis, Boller passed for 899 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions.
For his career, Boller has completed 56.8 percent of his throws for 8,745 yards, 48 touchdowns and 50 interceptions for a 70.6 quarterback rating.
