The Oakland Raiders are upbeat about rookie Derek Carr, so much so that he's been named the starter ahead of veteran Matt Schaub.

Schaub has an elbow problem.

Carr completed 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason finale.

Schaum completed 24 of 47 preseason throws for 218 yards, no touchdown and on interception. He was sacked three times.
