St. Louis Rams outside linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar has been suspended for four games without pay by the league for violating the NFL performance-enhancing drug policy, according to the league office.
He's eligible to participate in all preseason games and practices.
"First and foremost, I just wanted to say I didn't take a PED," Dunbar told St. Louis reporters after practice. "I mistakenly took something that prompted a prompted a failed drug test. I want to say I sincerely apologize. I'm deeply saddened and plan to serve my four-game suspension and get back to playing football as soon as possible."
Signed by the Rams last season after starting his career with the New Orleans Saints, Dunbar is a key member of the defense.
Dunbar has 274 career tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.
Last season in St. Louis, Dunbar had 115 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Although he went undrafted out of Boston College, the athletic 6-foot, 228-pounder has forged a strong NFL career.
His loss will be felt deeply by the Rams.
