Rams finally have their defensive coordinator

Nearly a year after the NFL suspended Gregg Williams, who at the time was the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams, the club has replaced him.

It looked like the Rams would hire Rob Ryan a few weeks ago but Jeff Fisher did a 180 and now the Rams will hire Tim Walton to the position. Walton had served as the secondary coach for the Detroit Lions and he is one of three candidates to get recent consideration from Fisher, including Dick Jauron and Mike Singletary.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Fisher tried to hire Walton when he assembled his initial staff a year ago, offering him the title of assistant defensive coordinator/passing game. Walton chose to remain with the Lions but now the 41-year-old is making the jump.

Williams’ son Blake Williams called the majority of plays on defense last season. His contract was not renewed. Now, St. Louis is prepared for a fresh start.
