Rams get $2 million from visitors bureau to pay for legal fees

The St. Louis Rams can become a free agent after the 2014 season if their stadium situation is not resolved.

The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission just forked over $2 million to cover the team’s legal fees in an arbitration case that was won by the Rams. The CVC and Rams differed on how the Edward Jones Dome needed to be upgraded to be among the top-quarter of stadiums in the league.

The plan proposed by the Rams is believed to be one in excess of $700 million and the Associated Press reported it is unlikely that will happen. If it doesn’t, the Rams can go year-to-year with their lease beginning in 2015. The NFL has stated it would like to see the stadium situation resolved. It could potentially mean a brand new stadium in St. Louis to replace the structure that first started hosting the team in 1995. But no plans have been hatched at this point.

All we know now is the CVC went ahead and paid up for the Rams’ lawyer fees. We’ll see where this thing heads as the year moves forward.
