OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens have cut veteran long snapper Matt Katula on Saturday, roughly two years after signing him to a five-year contract extension.

Releasing Katula created a roster spot for undrafted rookie free agent defensive back Brad Jones, who rejoined the team after being cut this spring.

Katula struggled at the end of last season with several errant snaps primarily due to chronic tendinitis in his snapping elbow.

Healthy again this summer, he seemed to be having a solid training camp.

The only remaining long snapper on the roster is Morgan Cox, an undrafted rookie from the University of Tennessee.

Cox handled all of the snapping duties duing the Ravens' 17-12 preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

A former University of Cincinnati cornerback and safety, Jones was signed this spring after participated in the Ravens' minicamp on a tryout basis.

Jones tried out for the Cleveland Browns this spring.

A 6-foot, 192-pounder, Jones flew under the radar during the draft process after not being invited to the NFL scouting combine.
