The news the Ravens feared became a reality.
Coach John Harbaugh told reporters after practice on Thursday that rookie defensive end Brent Urban, a fourth-round draft pick out of Virginia, tore his ACL in practice a day ago. It came on a play where fellow rookie defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan injured his back, though he is expected to return soon.
Urban was expected to compete for some playing time in the defensive line's rotation and possibly be a factor on special teams. Now he'll undergo rehab for the next year.
Some point soon, Urban will be placed on injured reserve with a roster spot open. It remains to be seen whether the Ravens decide to fill it with a defensive lineman or address another position.
