The Baltimore Ravens made it officially on Friday, announcing that they were applying the franchise tag to running back Ray Rice.

The move had been reported and wide speculated and even expected by agent Todd France, who represents Rice, last week at the NFL Combine.

Rice and the Ravens are still expected to try and work out a long-term deal in the interim and have until July 15 to reach an agreement before the $7.7 million franchise tag would officially take place as Rice's 2012 salary.
