Ray Rice will not face jail time for allegedly assaulting his now-wife Janay Palmer, as long as he completes a pretrial diversionary program that he was officially accepted into on Tuesday, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Rice had previously pleaded not guilty to a third-degree assault charge.

"After considering all relevant information in light of applicable law it was determined this was the appropriate disposition," Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said in a statement, via The Sun.

Rice was seen on a video obtained by TMZ dragging Palmer, his then-fiancée, out of an elevator at a casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Both were arrested, though Rice was the only one charged. The two have since wed.

Though he won't face any jail time or head to trial, a suspension could be in store for Rice if the NFL finds he violated the league's personal conduct policy.

Rice is coming off his most disappointing season since his rookie season, rushing for just 660 yards and four touchdowns in 2013.
