Ravens offensive tackle is helping draft prospect with the process. Joe Fortenbaugh
INDIANAPOLIS—You could say Ole Miss offensive guard John Jerry is getting his advice from the right places.
The 6’5”, 350-pound guard watched his older brother and teammate at Ole Miss, Peria, get selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft. Unfortunately, the elder Jerry appeared in only two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
But as if having an older brother to lean on wasn’t enough, Jerry (who sometimes goes by the nickname “Baby J”) has sought counsel from another former teammate.
Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher.
“Yes sir, I talked to him about [the draft process],” Jerry told reporters at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday afternoon. “Actually, I got to see him this past weekend and I talked to him a little bit about it.”
Jerry and Oher played together for three years at Ole Miss (2006-2008) and were roommates during camp for three years, with Oher sometimes assuming the role of teacher.
“Oh yeah, I learned a lot from Mike. From day one with me being at Ole Miss, I was Mike’s roommate in camp and he took me on for those three years and I’m just so happy for the success he’s having right now.”
Oher’s been having success both on and off the field as the rookie tackle started all 16 games for the Ravens this past season. He’s also the main character in Michael Lewis’ best-selling book “The Blind Side,” which recently was turned into a movie that struck box-office gold.
“I thought the movie was awesome,” Jerry said when asked if he had seen it. “I thought it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.”

I was on a flight from Milwaukee to L.A. last year and ran into TT at baggage claim at LAX. I approached him, told him I was a stockholder, and said I appreciated and approved of the job he was doing. He was genuinely approachable and friendly. After the draft I figured out he was probably in L.A. to scout Matthews!

Can swear he is like a return to the Cowboys heyday when they took college tackles and made them guards in order to pave the way for Emmit.
