The Washington Redskins have released safety Tanard Jackson, terminating his contract.

Jackson was einstated by the NFL today following a suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.

Jackson hasn't played since 2011 due to a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Jackson signed with the Redskins in 2012, but never played for them in a game. He has been eligible for reinstatement since last August and spent all of last season suspended.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers fourth-round draft pick from Syracuse has 10 career interceptions and five forced fumbles, starting 56 games.
