Kirk Cousins is going to take all of the reps with the first team for the Washington Redskins this offseason as Robert Griffin III recovers from reconstructive knee surgery.
The club has already announced that. The hope, too, is that Rex Grossman returns to the fold this coming season. Grossman was the No. 3 behind the pair of rookies this past season and in the event Griffin wasn’t ready for the start of the season, he would become the backup.
“I expect him to be back. … I’d like to have Rex back,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.
The club met with Grossman’s agent Drew Rosenhaus at the owners meetings. Obviously, the Redskins are pressed for space against the salary cap. Grossman has the skill and experience to be a quality No. 2 for some team. He’s smart too so he could understand an offense without getting the reps every day. But doors might not be opening for him elsewhere at this point.
