Redskins place LaRon Landry on injured reserve

LaRon Landry’s season came to an end today when the Washington Redskins placed in on injured reserve with an Achilles tendon injury.

Landry has been battling the injury for several weeks, and it short circuits a breakout campaign for him as he became a perfect fit for Jim Haslett’s defense as a strong safety.

“We've talked about him throughout the year,” coach Mike Shanahan said, according to the Washington Post. “I thought the first half of the season, he'd be (the NFL's defensive) MVP with the way he was playing.”

Jason Reid speculates that Landry could have put himself in position for a big pay raise. He had struggled under the previous coaching regime at free safety, but Landry was forced to play there out of necessity because the Redskins didn’t have a player who could handle the position.

“Hopefully, he can get well,” Shanahan said. “And get ready to go for next season.”
