“Rex is our quarterback.”

It’s a quote that Chicago Bears fans remember well. Lovie Smith said it often.

Will Mike Shanahan be uttering those words now? Well, the Washington Redskins announced that they have signed the veteran quarterback to a contract, adding him to the fold with Jason Campbell.

Grossman spent last season as a backup in Houston and that is where he gained familiarity with Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. He’s got a big arm and was known for big plays while with the Bears, especially in 2006 when they went to Super Bowl XLI. But Grossman was prone to errors and lost his job shortly into the next season when Smith grew tired of the turnovers.

The Redskins own the fourth pick in the draft and are said to be exploring Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen as an option. Grossman has talent but scouts said he grew scared in the pocket near the end of his run with the Bears. If he can regain form, perhaps he can compete with Campbell for the job if Shanahan goes another direction than Clausen.

Brad you're right on all counts with Grossman. I was a big fan until it became clear that teams could blitz him and get him spooked. At one time he had good pocket quickness but two bad injuries took that away.

Who knows, maybe this coaching staff can calm him down and he can still use of that tantalizing talent. But I'm not too sure about the Skins line. Doesn't seem to be a good one.

Rex Grossman? Compete with JC? Please, this kid is terrible and will never start again in the Pros! Please Allen and Shanahan DO NOT pick Jimmy Clausen, let's get O'kung if he is there and if what they arfe saying now that Suh might be available we would be moronic not to pickup someone with his value at 4! We would have huge trading power but if we had him with Albert and RAK, that defese would be something that other teams would fear!

Man he made out like a bandit. Boy the Bears are not smart w/the money & the signings but they are nice. Especially if your a player for them I guess. Its probably two seasons too late, but this was the right move.
