Redskins stop in Gainesville on way to Orlando

The Washington Redskins got some business done en route to the owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., over the weekend. They did so on a stop in Gainesville where they checked out Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

Head coach Mike Shanahan, general manager Bruce Allen and director of player personnel Scott Campbell were believed to be in attendance at the private workout, according to Jason Reid of the Washington Post.

The Redskins’ interest in Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen has been well documented. If the club pursues one of its vast other needs with the No. 4 overall selection, perhaps Tebow could be an option for Washington in the second or third rounds. It’s a strong draft for offensive tackles and the Redskins are badly in need of a young building block. They would really help themselves out if they could somehow find a way to trade down a few slots and then draft help for the line while adding some depth to their draft. The theory is terrific, finding a trading partner might not be real easy.

Tebow got to show off his new throwing motion, the one he should have started working on a couple years ago, and the Redskins then went on their way to Orlando where the focus will turn to things like a work stoppage and rule changes for overtime. We’ll see if Tebow can continue to generate some buzz with a little more than four weeks to go until the draft.
