Redskins to tag Brian Orakpo if contract talks stall

The Washington Redskins will continue negotiating on a new deal for outside linebacker Brian Orakpo.

But according to a report from ESPN, if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement by 4 p.m., the Redskins will place the franchise tag on him.

Reportedly, the Redskins were debating whether to potentially use the franchise tag on Orakpo or not. It appears they will, to ensure he'll stay in Washington in 2014.

If the Redskins do tag Orakpo, they can still negotiate a new contract with him until July 15. After that, all players tagged must play the season out under that designation.

The franchise tag for linebackers is worth $11.455 million.
