The next domino should fall soon.
With Matt Flynn being traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Oakland Raiders earlier today, Carson Palmer will be on the move soon.
Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that a deal that would ship Carson Palmer from the Raiders to the Oakland Raiders is being finalized. The Cardinals would give Oakland a draft pick and Palmer would agree to reduce his base salary from $13 million for 2013 to something more workable for the Cardinals.
It would give new Cardinals coach Bruce Arians a quarterback capable of running a vertical passing game and likely push aside Drew Stanton, who Arians has been talking up as the likely starter. Palmer goes from a rebuilding situation in Oakland to a rebuilding situation in Arizona, which is interesting. The Cardinals do not seem much more likely to compete than the cap-strapped Raiders, but after 1 ½ seasons in Oakland, Palmer apparently wanted out.
It will be interesting to see if Arians and the Cardinals pursue a young passer in the draft also. Surely, they won’t use their first-round pick on one though.
